South Sudan Refugee camp
Life in a refugee camp is very rough. I will tell you what we have been doing in the month that we have been here.
Our tent is made out of wood and waterproof cloth. Inside, it is stuffy and cramped, there is only enough space in our tent for everyone to have a bed and a pile of clothes.
Here is our routine: The first person up goes to the well to collect the water. When they return, the second person that was up goes around the camp collecting weeds and berries.
After everyone has eaten and drank, me and my sisters get ready for school. Our school is under one of the trees in the camp.
After we return from school we change and one of us goes to fetch the water. For dinner we have wild vegetables and rice.
After dinner me, my sisters and my dad go to help construct shelters for the people that have just arrived.
When we need to go to the toilet we go round the back of the tent and do our thing in the bucket. After we’ve finished, we carry it to the ditch in the middle of the camp and tip it in.
When we get back to the tent we climb inside and settle into our beds, which are bags stuffed with sand, and the blankets waterproof cloth.
On the weekends I go around the camp collecting people's dirty clothes to wash. Washing the clothes gives me money for my family. My youngest sister washes the socks, my other sister washes the kids clothes and I wash the adults things.
