Te Tuna Taone/Urban longfin eels

                                     Te Tuna Taone/Urban Longfin eel
On the 7 March  Rm 3, Rm 4 Rm 5, Rm 6 and Rm 7 from O.L.A. school went to the part of the Heathcote River that is in Cardinal park to grow our knowledge about Carl Urban Eels. The five stations were:
  • Eels games/fish identification/eel touching
  • Nature walk
  • Bug Identification
  • Stormwater Story
  •  Eel Art
As you can see we had an interesting day. The people that we were working alongside were called  Bridget, Matt and Tony, they worked for Enviroschools Canterbury. I was in Group 1, and our first station was the 'Nature Walk'. The station was all about the habitat of the river and if we think that is a good habitat for eels. Our next station was the 'Stormwater story'. We had to find 6 test tubes containing 6 different liquids. Here are the liquids that the test tubes were containing:
  1. Blue Dye for the Zink that comes off our roofs;
  2. Sediment;
  3. Car wash;
  4. Moss spray;
  5. Vegemite for dog poo;
  6. Rubbish
( The sixth one was not in a test tube. )

The third station was the EEL STATION!!!!!  I caught five whitebait, came third in the game, and patted three eels.
    Our  fourth station was the Bug identification. Here we shifted through the water and mud in the tray. My group found a whitebait in our tray.

Our last station was the Eel Art. Me, Justin T and Dylan made a shortfin and a longfin eel out of dried grass, leafs, conkers and small stones.

Thank you for taking time to read my blog, I hope you enjoyed!!
