Eel actions

In term 1, we learnt about eels. We decided that we needed to help them, so we teamed up with other people that wanted to do smiler actions, and started plotting and sharing ideas and thoughts. So far me, my peers Sophie, Polly and Katelyn, have come up with 6 or 7 different ideas. Sophie and Polly go onto Google maps and find rivers to put our action into. Katelyn and I go onto our Google Doc sheet and jot down our ideas.




Refugee Shelters

In term 1, for RE, we were learning about what life is like for the people who live in South Sudan. We compared our lives to theirs. Their lives were so hard, we decided to have a day where we would act like their everyday lives are. So, we asked around for cardboard. On the day, everybody got cardboard, string, tape, scissors, fabric and sacks. Me, Milan, Rubi-Lee, Xhin, and Savanna made ours like a cage. It had box's for walls, crinkly cardboard for the roof, flat cardboard for the floor. The floor was covered with sacks, then fabric. We used a box for the windbreaker, leaving a small hole for the entrance. For lunch we were given rice. I came up with the idea to carry water on our heads with the bowls that had been used for the rice; Soon everybody was copying me!!



So that was two of the events in term 1. The rest of the year is going to be just as awesome!

Financial Literacy - Market Day Term 2's main focus - Financial Literacy/Market day. We have been learning about Financial Literacy. An ASB person called Amy came in to teach us about CASH (C=clear, A=action, S=save, H=how long?). We decided to make our own businesses. Me and my BFF, Rubi-Lee have chosen to do Pet gear. We were going to do Pet Sitting, but we had nowhere to put the animals, so we adopted Pet gear. This is our name/logo: 4 Paws on Deck- the perfect gear for your furry friend! The Spaghetti - Marshmellow Challenge

The Spaghetti - Marshmallow Challenge Kia Ora everyone,  I hope you have enjoyed my blogs so far. This post will be about the science challenge that we did today. The materials were pretty limiting. We only had: 1 meter of string 1 meter of tape 20 spaghetti sticks 1 marshmallow We had to craft a tower in only 18 minutes! The first plan for my team was: Step 1: Make a square base Step 2: Make spikes from all the corners of the base Step 3: Stick the spaghetti sticks into the marshmallow Step 4: stick four spaghetti sticks into the marshmallow, outwards Step 5: around the top of the outwards-pointing sticks, make a square base Step 6: Put a cross connecting the corners of the higher square Unfortunately when it came time for judging, the marshmallow made our tower lean, then fall over! Planting at Centennial Stream

Planting at Centennial Stream   Ngu mai, haere mai, Yesterday, the Batten Team went down to Centennial Stream and planted shrubs and Toy toy's. Three Park Rangers from the council were there; Sally, Sarah, and Evelyn. All forty something of us ( The rest were still at school ) were split between the Rangers. I was in Sarah's group and my partner was Rubi-lee. Gloves and spades were provided, so that was OK. I planted 1 toy toy, and Rubi-lee planted 1 shrub and a tree.  Rubi-lee got a little dirty, and was helpful. All her swimming muscles paid off, she certainly was very strong!  At the end of the hour-long session, we gave back the gear. The session was fun and dirty.
